Tour de Wedgwood Graffiti - Summer 2008!

Here's the first contribution to our new 59.5 foot Festivus pole/cell phone tower at the corner of 75th and 35th.

These next two are from the old JCC building.

And this one is from - well the Zipcar sign on 35th.

It's been kind of a rough summer for the W-wood, with our neighborhood sign being stolen and vandals spraypainting buildings.

Remember to call city's Graffiti Report Line at (206) 684-7587, they'll contact property owners and ask them to clean up. There's an online form too at www.seattle.gov/util/services/

Although I had mixed feelings about the condos planned for old JCC location, having a large vacant building is such an eyesore and magnet for vandals. Let's keep an eye on the property together...!

Update: There is now a broken window at 8606 35th Ave NE (right off the sidewalk)…. Jagged glass and a hole bigger than a basketball – within reach of people (kids!) passing by. If it gets a bit bigger, entry to the bldg will be possible.

I got some info from the city:

BROKEN GLASS
A "vacant bldg inspector" went to the bldg and issued them a notice to fix it. He’s waiting for a reply.

GRAFFITI
They have received a letter of compliance. No reply. If they fail to reply to a second letter, they’ll have a hearing. After that, the city can remove the graffiti and charge the building owners (and fine them).

WHAT SHOULD WE DO?
Call Murray Frankly at 425-644-2323
And ask for:
Wade Metz
Don Jasper
Don Kline

Or anyone else at the company ask request that they do the right thing and take care of their property and clean it up then put a fence around it.

Let them know that there's growing hostility in this neighborhood toward their company, which can be diffused by spending a few bucks to clean it up.

THANKS

The window was fixed yesterday, and I believe that a crew is coming out to paint the building today.

I've also volunteered to host a can of paint and paint brush to make any touch-ups to small vandalism that happens.

Well, the company did NOTHING. Finally our neighborhood block got together today and painted out the graffiti ourselves. How about every nearby block signing up to watch for graffiti on the JCC building & paint it out immediately? Murray Franklin is not going to keep on top of the situation. We have to take matters into our own hands to keep our neighbor safe & beautiful!
